Breastfeeding Freindly University Project Heart

The Breastfeeding Friendly University Project is a university-wide, collaborative effort which began at The George Washington University in September of 2011.  Through this project, representatives of the many aspects of university life meet regularly to discuss better ways to support the breastfeeding families in our community, and to educate members of the GW community about the importance of breastfeeding.  In the spirit of the World Health Organization's Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative, UNICEF's Innocenti Declaration, and the Surgeon General's 2011 Call to Action, we recognize the impact of breastfeeding on the physical and emotional health of children and their mothers, as well as to society as a whole.  It is our goal to define and then to become a "Breastfeeding Friendly University," and to set a standard for others to follow.
